About Wàwàtesì

Wàwàtesì — lighting a way forward

Algonquin Cultural Discovery Project.

Wàwàtesì means firefly in the Algonquin language.

The bioluminescence of fireflies symbolizes the lighting of the trail—a way forward. Wàwàtesì also has cultural importance to the Algonquin People as indicators of the passage of time, renewal, healing and the cycles of life.

The Wàwàtesì Cultural Discovery Project will include an ongoing series of physical & virtual experiences introducing Algonquin art, culture, language & heritage to those who live & work in traditional Algonquin lands, as well as those who visit for business & leisure.
